  • In 1998, there were 240 state and local ballot initiatives pertaining to Growth Management, 70% of which passed, creating an additional $7.5 billion dollars for smart growth programs.
  • In 1999, 32 governors spoke of land conservation, growth control, transportation mitigation or other sprawl concerns in State of the State addresses or budget messages.
  • Over the past three years, more than 2,000 bills have been introduced in state legislatures to address land use issues.
